Use Turn Signals When Driving at Y-Shaped Intersections
Hello everyone,
According to statistics from the New Taipei City Traffic Violation Adjudication Office, from January to November last year (2020), there were 114,541 cases of failure to use turn signals on general roads, accounting for 3.02% of all traffic violations and ranking as the 9th most common infraction. The office's director, Lee Chung-tai, stated that under the Road Traffic Safety Rules, drivers must use turn signals or hand gestures when making turns. Failure to comply with this requirement on general roads can result in fines of up to NT$1,200, as stipulated in Article 42 of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act.
At Y-shaped or T-shaped intersections, drivers of cars and motorcycles should activate their turn signals in advance to indicate their intended direction to other road users, both in front and behind. This helps prevent accidents and avoid penalties.
Additionally, when using public transportation, please adhere to the following prevention measures:
-
No eating or drinking on board.
-
Wear a mask at all times.
-
Maintain a safe distance while lining up to board or disembark.
-
Limit conversation during the journey.
-
Leave gaps between seats where possible and only hold onto one handrail while standing.
Failing to wear a mask properly on public transport, as verified by inspection or public reporting, may result in fines ranging from NT$3,000 to NT$15,000 under the Communicable Disease Control Act.
